Medway’s ‘Dementia’ volunteer Award

A recognition award for the outstanding volunteers we have in Medway working with people with dementia. Its open to any of our outstanding Medway  residents who volunteer their time in order to enhance the lives of people living with dementia

John Portman

John Portman volunteers for the Alzheimer’s Society and has done for about 18 months. John is a passionate volunteer and directly makes a massive contribution to our services by regularly attending our Gillingham Peer Support Group and Carers Information and Support Programme. John has a wonderful way with our clients and treats everyone as an individual. He gets to know everyone and understands the importance of these services

Barbara Ongley

I first met Barbara in 2010 when my husband first developed problems with his daily living activities. At first Barbara had an army of people to deal with different things ie benefits forms, services advice etc, but over the past few years these people have been stopped or moved on to other things leaving Barbara to now run the group almost single handed which she does to great effect.
