Kent’s Dementia Friendly Awards 2016

The 2015 Awards were great fun and a real boost for the Dementia Friendly Community Work in Kent.

Now we have the 2016 awards

The Oasis Academy,  Isle of Sheppey hosted the 2016 Kent Dementia Award’s this October, with a theme of

‘School Day’s’

Judging  again has been carried out by people living with dementia through existing dementia groups, postal votes and video judging and  during Sept 12th – Oct 7th . This year due to the amount of entries we had to do the judging in two rounds, the first to find our finalists and the second to find our winners. This has been far from easy as anyone involved can tell you, there were so many good nominations that it was hard to get our finalists and even harder to find our Winners, so those who didn’t get through to our final please don’t feel disheartened you are all winners in my eyes 🙂

The day would not have happened without the generous offer of the school to host the awards, and the student team which worked with us to make the day so special.

Or the sponsors which donated both finances and effort into making the day a success 20161024_0324-1

This was a chance to celebrate some of the great work that has been happening across Kent.

We were only able to have one winner, but the nominations and finalist this year were outstanding, which made the job of judging all the harder. Everyone: nominated, finalists and our winners are all working so hard to improve the  lives of our residents living and affected by dementia so hopefully – in the long run- Its our residents who will be the  real winners.

There has been a huge amount done, but there is still a long way to go and one step at a time we are working towards the ultimate goal of a dementia friendly Kent
