As part of our work encouraging local businesses and organisations to apply for the ‘Working to become Dementia Friendly’ recognition symbol we have purchased an age simulation suit. (below)
Although not everyone diagnosed with a dementia is elderly, many people living with dementia also have age related impairments, as do the many elderly family carers we have across Kent.
As a first step in encouraging a bit of empathy we have purchased this suit so that we can allow local businesses, organisations and younger people to better understand and experience a number of age related impairments. This coupled with participating in a number of tasks and exercises we hope may give people a small insight into what life may be like for our elderly population and also for those living with some dementia symptoms.
For those who wish to really experience living with dementia we can then encourage people to contact the Virtual Dementia Tour -a multi sensory experience to give a person with a healthy brain an experience of what Dementia might be like – Virtual dementia tour
